Depth: Foreground, Mid-ground, and Background

The second element I explored was foreground, mid-ground, and background or depth. The first image is an example of background as the trees in the distance are crisp and clear. The center picture focuses on the truck while the background and foreground are unfocused. Then, the bottom image focuses on the foreground of the tree bark. I also love the texture shown in this bottom picture. The change in depth can really affect where the eye goes when viewing the image. I find that the depth changes made my images more dynamic in the way they pull focus to certain parts of the image.

Lighting

For the first element, I chose to explore lightning. In the center photo, I captured the truck in the center of sunlight, surrounded by shadows made by the branches of the tree. Then, I moved the truck indoors. Here I used a lamp to induce light. The top and bottom photos show the spotlight casting shadows on the truck. Not only did the lighting bring the focus of the image to the truck, I feel the lighting created drama especially in the photos taken indoors.
